Keaton Mitchell Trade Rumors Gain Momentum as Ravens Eye Roster Overhaul

The Baltimore Ravens are making headlines as they contemplate significant changes to their roster. Despite a rocky start to the season with a 1-5 record, the franchise is showing an unwavering commitment to revamping their team in pursuit of immediate success.

Recent Moves Signal Intent

General manager Eric DeCosta has already shaken things up by trading edge rusher Odafe Oweh to the Los Angeles Chargers for safety Alohi Gilman. This strategic move has already borne fruit; Gilman had an impressive debut in the Ravens’ 17-3 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6, leading the team with seven tackles and earning a commendable 83.3 grade from Pro Football Focus.

This transaction seems to be just the beginning of DeCosta’s efforts to steer Baltimore back into playoff contention. As the trade deadline approaches, speculation is rife about potential acquisitions, particularly in the realm of edge rushers. However, there are also whispers suggesting that the Ravens might consider parting ways with one of their own offensive pieces: running back Keaton Mitchell.

Keaton Mitchell on the Trade Block?

In a recent discussion about potential trade scenarios, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler indicated that Mitchell could be a candidate for trade talks as the Ravens look to reshape their roster. Fowler highlighted Mitchell’s explosive speed, but noted that he has become somewhat of a spare part in the Ravens’ backfield.

Mitchell, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023, made a memorable impact during his rookie season, accumulating 396 rushing yards and two touchdowns over eight games. However, injuries have plagued his career. He missed 12 games last season due to an ACL injury and has only recently returned to the field after suffering a hamstring issue. In the last two games, he has managed just three carries for eight yards and a single catch for five yards.

A Numbers Game in the Backfield

With Derrick Henry commanding the bulk of the carries and Justice Hill stepping up as the reliable backup, Mitchell finds himself squeezed out of the equation. His potential as a game-changing offensive weapon is undeniable, but the harsh reality of the NFL is that availability is critical. Unfortunately, Mitchell’s injury history raises concerns about his ability to contribute consistently.

Should the Ravens opt to trade Mitchell, it would not only clear room in their backfield but could also provide them with leverage in a larger trade deal if necessary. The team’s commitment to winning now is evident, and every move counts as they seek to turn their season around.

As the Ravens navigate the trade landscape, all eyes will be on their next steps. The upcoming weeks promise to be pivotal for a franchise eager to reclaim its competitive edge.
