Josh Allen Battles Through Injury as Bills Prepare for Jets Showdown
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was sidelined during Wednesday’s practice in Orchard Park, but his absence from the field doesn’t dampen his determination to suit up for the crucial matchup against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium on January 4. Despite dealing with a minor foot injury, which he aggravated in the previous game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen remains committed to extending his impressive streak of consecutive starts in Week 18.
“I feel like we’re in a good spot,” Allen asserted during his weekly press conference. “Just continuing to try to do all the things right, and make sure I’m ready to go.”
Streak of Resilience
Since November 2018, Allen has not missed a start, showcasing remarkable durability with 121 consecutive regular-season games played. When playoff appearances are included, that number rises to 134. This streak is a testament to his tenacity and commitment to the team, qualities that resonate deeply within the Bills’ locker room.
With a playoff berth already secured, the Bills find themselves in a unique position. While they cannot improve upon their No. 5 seed, the franchise faces a strategic dilemma: should they rest key players like Allen or risk further injury? Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who holds a record of 31-26 as an NFL starter, could potentially lead the team against the struggling Jets if necessary.
“There is that thin line between you guys are already in the playoffs, don’t want to do anything too crazy, try to get healthy,” Allen explained. “Come gameday, I’m going to be ready, whether that’s this week or next week. I just gotta prepare as if I’m ready to roll.”
Chasing Milestones
Allen’s determination to take the field for at least the initial snap is fueled not only by his commitment to the team but also by personal milestones. He is just one touchdown away from reaching 40 for the season, a benchmark he has hit in each of the past five seasons. As the Bills prepare for their final regular-season game, it’s likely that Allen will be given a chance to achieve this goal, potentially for one last drive at home.
However, with so many variables at play, Bills head coach Sean McDermott has yet to finalize the game plan. “Trusting in what coach is telling us. Not sure exactly what the whole plan is,” Allen remarked. “I know we’re working through some different options and scenarios right now. Having the mindset of ready to roll. Whatever is asked of me, I’m gonna do.”
As the countdown to the pivotal game against the Jets continues, all eyes will be on Allen, eager to see if he can not only maintain his streak but also add another notable achievement to his already impressive resume.
