Bengals Bolster Roster Ahead of Clash with Bears

Cincinnati is gearing up to face the Chicago Bears, with hopes of pushing their record to 4-5 this season. In a strategic move, the Bengals have elevated guard Jaxson Kirkland and linebacker Brian Asamoah II from the practice squad for the matchup. This decision comes in light of Dalton Risner’s illness, leaving his availability for the game in question. Kirkland, who may see action for the second time this season, brings depth to the offensive line.

As for Asamoah, the 25-year-old linebacker was a third-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and has an impressive resume. During his tenure with Minnesota, he participated in 46 regular-season games, accumulating 20 tackles, two forced fumbles, and ten special teams tackles. After spending the initial eight weeks of the season on the Raiders’ practice squad, his addition is timely, especially with Logan Wilson expected to miss the game due to a calf injury.

Flacco’s Determination

In a show of resilience, Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco is set to take the field on Sunday despite nursing an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder. Head coach Zac Taylor expressed admiration for Flacco’s leadership, stating, “When you see leaders and guys you’re counting on doing that, how can you not give your all for those guys?” Taylor acknowledged the team’s struggles this season but emphasized the positive character within the locker room. “These guys step up in practice these last three days; now we just got to transfer it to Sunday and go put a great performance together and find a win.”

Flacco’s performance has been notable since joining the Bengals, completing 64.3% of his passes for 784 yards and seven touchdowns across three starts. Acquired in a trade that sent a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Browns, Flacco has been a beacon of hope for Cincinnati while Joe Burrow recovers from injury. The veteran quarterback is determined to contribute, remarking, “I didn’t really give it much thought. You try to play. You’re the quarterback. You take it from there.”

Aiming for Momentum

With the game against the Bears looming, the Bengals are eager to secure a victory that would not only improve their record but also maintain their position in the AFC North standings. A win would grant them sole possession of second place in the division, bolstering their aspirations as they head into a bye week.

As the Bengals prepare for this pivotal matchup, the team is focused on translating their hard work in practice into success on game day. With Flacco leading the charge, Cincinnati aims to harness that momentum and turn their season around.
