Joe Burrow Returns as Bengals’ Hero After Surgery

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals are on a mission, and at the forefront is quarterback Joe Burrow, who is determined to lead his team to the playoffs despite a challenging season. The Bengals faced a daunting 1-8 record during Burrow’s absence, a stretch that began with a grade 3 toe sprain suffered against the Jaguars. The injury required surgery in Week 2, sidelining Burrow for nine critical games.

Burrow made his much-anticipated return on Thanksgiving night, where he helped the Bengals secure a decisive 32-14 victory over the Ravens. This week, Cincinnati is gearing up for another tough contest as they travel to Buffalo to face the Bills on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. However, the Bengals will enter the matchup as 5.5-point underdogs.

Ja’Marr Chase’s Superhero Comparison

Ja’Marr Chase, one of Burrow’s closest allies on the field, has a unique perspective on their current situation. He likens Burrow’s role to that of a superhero. “I don’t think Joe is the underdog. I think they’re looking at the whole team as the underdog in the situation,” Chase stated. “Joe’s just doing what Captain America does, save us a day. You know what I’m saying? That’s what we need him to do as a quarterback, as a leader of the offense, of the whole team. We need him to step up and be that guy.”

With the Bills featuring star players like Josh Allen and James Cook, the Bengals will need Burrow at his best to overcome the formidable 8-4 Buffalo squad that recently dominated the Steelers.

A Nickname Debate

Chase playfully dismissed the idea of Burrow adopting the nickname “Captain America,” opting instead for a more established moniker. “No, no, no. That’s not his nickname. Shiesty… I like Shiesty,” he said with a grin.

As the Bengals prepare for this pivotal game, the spotlight is firmly on Burrow. The team and its fans are hoping he can channel his superhero persona on the field as they aim for a crucial win against the Bills in Buffalo.
