Joe Burrow defies playoff exit, vows Bengals will finish strong against Browns

Joe Burrow remains steadfast as Bengals aim to finish strong against Browns

CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Zac Taylor showed unwavering confidence when asked about Joe Burrow’s participation in the upcoming season finale against the Cleveland Browns. “Yes,” he affirmed shortly after Cincinnati’s victory over Arizona, which improved their record to 6-10 this season. With the focus now shifting to the Browns, Taylor reinforced his commitment to playing Burrow, even with the team already eliminated from playoff contention.

Burrow’s Impact on the Game

“[He] gives us the best chance to win the game,” Taylor stated, emphasizing the importance of Burrow’s presence on the field. The Bengals are riding a two-game winning streak, boasting a 5-2 record with Burrow under center this season. The team recognizes the significance of ending the year on a high note. A victory against Cleveland would elevate their record to 7-10 and improve their divisional standing to 4-2.

Despite the challenges, this season marks the Bengals’ first losing record since 2020, Burrow’s rookie year.

Playing for Pride and Improvement

“We’re putting our bodies on the line every time we go out there, trying to prove ourselves to the world,” Burrow remarked after the recent win. Acknowledging the reality of their situation, he added, “Playoffs are out of the question, obviously. But anytime you step foot out there, you’re playing for pride, for your guys, trying to execute, and trying to put good stuff on tape.”

Burrow’s performances in the last two games have been nothing short of remarkable. He has completed 49 of 63 passes, achieving a completion rate of 77.18% for a total of 614 yards, with six touchdowns and no interceptions against the Dolphins and Cardinals. In these contests, the Bengals have outscored their opponents 82-35.

Embracing the Journey

“This is why you do it—the highs and the lows. The emotion. Just performing with your guys. It’s what you love about it,” Burrow shared, reflecting on the rollercoaster of the season. “We are where we’re at, and there’s nothing we can do about it now, so we put one foot in front of the other and try to get better going forward as we perform again next week.”

As the Bengals gear up for their final match of the season, Burrow’s determination and leadership will be at the forefront, driving the team to close out the year with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
