Jerry Jones faces kicker’s market revolution as Aubrey’s potential $28M deal reshapes NFL’s financial landscape

Jerry Jones navigates kicker’s market upheaval as Aubrey’s prospective $28M deal alters NFL’s financial dynamics

Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner, has long been known for his strategic approach when it comes to contract negotiations. This time, however, it appears that his kicker, Brandon Aubrey, holds the upper hand as he seeks a lucrative new contract. Aubrey’s recent performances, particularly his remarkable 64-yard field goal that saved a game against the Giants, followed by a game-winning kick as time expired, have placed him in a prime position for a significant payday.

Currently, Aubrey is entering the final year of his three-year, $2.69 million contract. His impressive displays on the field have set the stage for a potential contract that could reshape the landscape for kickers in the NFL.

Aubrey’s potential contract value

As the market for kickers evolves, Aubrey is poised to become the highest-paid kicker in the league, with projections estimating his next deal could be valued at a minimum of $26 million. This figure places him in elite company, surpassing the current highest-paid kicker, Harrison Butker, who signed a deal worth $25.6 million, averaging $6.4 million annually.

Aubrey’s credentials bolster his case for a significant salary increase. He boasts the second-longest field goal in NFL history at 65 yards, a feat achieved against the Ravens in 2024, with only Justin Tucker’s 66-yard record standing above him. Moreover, since Tucker’s departure from Baltimore, Aubrey has maintained the longest active kick in the league, further solidifying his value.

Market dynamics and negotiation strategies

With his agent, Todd France—who also represents quarterback Dak Prescott—Aubrey’s negotiations could push for even more than the projected $28 million over four years, which would average $7 million annually. France’s experience in negotiating high-stakes contracts may allow them to leverage Aubrey’s crucial role in the Cowboys’ offense to secure a deal that not only meets but exceeds current kicker market standards.

As the NFL continues to evolve, Brandon Aubrey’s impending contract could serve as a benchmark for future negotiations, establishing a new norm for kickers and reflecting the growing importance of their contributions to team success. The stakes are high, and with each game, Aubrey’s performance could further influence the financial landscape of the league.
