Jaylen Wright returns to practice, fueling Dolphins’ hope for a Week 4 comeback against the Jets

The Miami Dolphins received a much-needed boost in their injury report on Thursday, as running back Jaylen Wright made his return to practice. This marks his first appearance on the field since suffering a knee injury during training camp.

Wright’s Gradual Comeback

Wright participated in practice on a limited basis, according to the Dolphins’ injury report. While his return is encouraging, it seems unlikely that he will suit up for the upcoming home opener against the New England Patriots on Sunday. Furthermore, the following Thursday night clash against the Buffalo Bills might also be a stretch for the young running back. However, optimism is building around the possibility of Wright being ready for the pivotal Week 4 matchup on Monday night against the New York Jets.

The Dolphins’ injury report showed no other changes aside from Wright’s return. Unfortunately, the team continues to face challenges, as five players were absent from practice for a second consecutive day. Notably, cornerback Storm Duck (ankle), tackle Austin Jackson (toe), and defensive tackle Benito Jones (oblique) are among those dealing with injuries. Tight end Darren Waller, who missed the Indianapolis game, and cornerback Ethan Bonner (hamstring) also remain sidelined.

Waddle’s Situation Raises Concerns

Additionally, two players were listed as limited participants: wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (shoulder) and safety Ashtyn Davis (knee). Waddle sustained his injury during the season opener against the Colts, where he recorded four catches for 30 yards before landing awkwardly on his left shoulder. The Dolphins cannot afford to lose Waddle as they navigate a challenging part of their schedule.

Should Jones be unable to play against the Patriots, rookie seventh-round pick Zeek Biggers is poised to make his NFL debut after being inactive in the previous game. Coach Mike McDaniel indicated on Wednesday that he is preparing for the possibility of Jackson missing the game, which seems increasingly likely given his absence from the first two practices of the week.

Patriots Injury Report Update

Turning to the Patriots, their injury report saw three changes on Thursday. Two players returned to practice on a limited basis: outside linebacker Harold Landry III (foot) and tackle Morgan Moses (foot). However, defensive tackle Christian Barmore was added to the report as a limited participant due to a non-injury-related issue.

Notably, starting cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) and defensive end Keion White (illness) were absent from practice for a second straight day. Landry, who contributed 2.5 sacks in the Patriots’ opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, is a key player to watch as the week progresses.

The Patriots also had three players listed as limited participants, including wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who led the team with 103 receiving yards against the Raiders. He is currently dealing with a shoulder injury, while linebackers Christian Elliss and Marte Mapu were also marked as limited.

As the Dolphins prepare to face the Patriots, the return of Wright, despite its limitations, brings a glimmer of hope for the team as they look ahead to a crucial stretch of games, including their anticipated clash with the Jets.
