Goff Responds to Doubts, Promises Lions Will Rise Against Steelers
The Detroit Lions are holding their heads high, even as they find themselves on the fringes of the NFC playoff picture. In his weekly radio segment with 97.1 The Ticket, quarterback Jared Goff voiced his frustration over the growing skepticism surrounding the team’s ability to secure a postseason spot. With the season nearing its conclusion, many have begun to question whether the Lions can win their final three games and claim one of the coveted playoff positions.
Following a setback against the Los Angeles Rams, the doubts have only intensified. Critics have pointed to the Lions’ struggles against tougher opponents this season, leading to a narrative that the team is destined to miss the playoffs for the first time in three years. Goff was particularly riled by fan calls during the station’s Monday segment, where listeners expressed pessimism about the Lions’ chances.
“That’s awesome. Thank you guys,” Goff remarked, his annoyance palpable. “I don’t need to reinstill faith in anyone. It pisses me off a little bit to hear that. But yeah, you know, we got to win this first one. Pittsburgh at home. We’ll have it in front of our home fans. And yeah, it’ll be great. Go out there and get that W, and hopefully prove a lot of our people wrong.”
Confidence in the Game Plan
When it comes to facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, Goff’s confidence remains unwavering. “Win the first one. Absolutely. We can get this one done, and go beat Pittsburgh and then go from there,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming matchup as a pivotal moment for the Lions.
Goff also weighed in on the innovative idea of broadcasting the All-22 view of plays during games. After catching part of the Steelers’ Monday Night Football clash against the Dolphins, he acknowledged the value of this perspective, even if it doesn’t entirely replace the insights gained from traditional film study.
“It’d be nice for me watching the game for sure,” he said. “I’d like for everyone to be at practice with us all week too, and see all that stuff. That might help as well, to just see how we have to go through reads and progress through things. But yeah, it’s a hard position and we take all the blame, though. It’s all good and we get a lot of the praise as well.”
Looking Ahead
As the Lions prepare to host the Steelers, the pressure is mounting. Goff’s determination to silence the critics reflects a broader ambition within the team to prove their worth. With the playoffs hanging in the balance, the Lions will need to rally together and execute their game plan effectively against a formidable opponent. The upcoming game is not just about securing a win; it’s about reclaiming respect and showing that they belong in the postseason conversation.
