Jalen Hurts targets Packers as Eagles aim to keep winning streak alive

Jalen Hurts Eyes Victory as Eagles Face Packers

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to kick off a critical stretch of their season with back-to-back primetime matchups, starting with a showdown against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Following this game, the Eagles will host the Detroit Lions, making this a pivotal moment in their campaign.

Eagles Return from Bye Week

After a week off that extended their break by an extra day, the Eagles are ready to return to action. Their last appearance on the field was on October 26, where they secured a two-game winning streak. Head coach Nick Sirianni has demonstrated an impressive record of 4-0 following bye weeks and remains undefeated against NFC North opponents since taking the helm in 2021.

“We’ve kept our focus sharp,” said edge rusher Jalyx Hunt. “For some, a long break can disrupt momentum. But for us, it feels like we’re in rhythm, like we just played last week.”

New Faces in the Lineup

The Eagles will also be unveiling some new talent as they face the Packers. Notably, cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has joined from the Packers, could make an immediate impact. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has kept his plans under wraps, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Alexander starting alongside Quinyon Mitchell.

In a similar vein, the Eagles recently brought in Michael Carter and Jaelan Phillips, both of whom will be closely monitored in their debut. The Colts successfully integrated Sauce Gardner just days after acquiring him, and the Eagles could follow suit with Alexander.

Pass-Rushing Power

The Eagles’ defensive lineup could feature up to five active pass-rushers, including Brandon Graham, who is returning from a brief retirement, and Nolan Smith, who is finally healthy and poised for action. Jaelan Phillips, also a recent addition, will be one to watch as he adjusts to his new team.

Facing Micah Parsons

Although the Eagles no longer have to face Micah Parsons twice a year, they will encounter him in this matchup, and potentially again in the postseason. Parsons is coming off a rare game without a pressure against the Panthers, a performance that raised eyebrows. Despite this setback, he has recorded 6.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hits this season, making him a constant threat.

Establishing Their Identity

On the offensive side, the Eagles are looking to reestablish their identity. In their last outing against the Giants, running backs Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby both eclipsed the 100-yard mark, contributing to a season-high rushing total of 276 yards. This potent ground game is crucial as they prepare for the Packers.

Jalen Hurts in Command

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been on fire lately, throwing seven touchdowns in his last two games. While his rushing attempts have decreased compared to previous seasons, he may need to rely on his legs against the Packers. Hurts boasts a perfect 3-0 record against Green Bay, with 35 runs for 219 yards contributing to those victories.

Prediction for the Matchup

The Eagles will be without center Cam Jurgens for another game, but the return of wide receiver A.J. Brown adds depth to their offense. Having shown progression from their second half against Minnesota to a complete performance against the Giants, the Eagles appear to be hitting their stride. The Packers, meanwhile, are dealing with injuries in their receiving corps, putting pressure on their running game, led by Josh Jacobs.

In a close contest, the Eagles are expected to pull through. Eagles 26, Packers 20.

Season Record: 4-4
