Jahmyr Gibbs Dominates with Three Touchdowns, Earns NFC Offensive Player of the Week
Jahmyr Gibbs Shines in Week 10
In a dazzling performance that breathed new life into the Detroit Lions’ season, running back Jahmyr Gibbs made headlines with a spectacular three-touchdown game against the Washington Commanders in Week 10. The Lions emerged victorious with a resounding 44-22 win, and Gibbs played a pivotal role, rushing for 142 yards while also contributing 30 receiving yards.
This remarkable outing has earned Gibbs the title of NFC Offensive Player of the Week, a fitting accolade for a player who is making waves in just his third season. Notably, Gibbs is now only the second player in Lions history to achieve 40 touchdowns within his first three years in the league, a feat previously accomplished by none other than Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.
Revitalized Rushing Attack
The Lions’ offense demonstrated a renewed vigor, showcasing a more efficient and explosive rushing attack under the guidance of their new play-caller. In stark contrast to the previous week, where Gibbs managed a mere 28 scrimmage yards on 12 touches against the Vikings, this game served as a much-needed rebound.
“Yeah, last week we didn’t play even close to our standards,” Gibbs reflected postgame. “That’s probably the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been here. We don’t want to ever put that on tape again. So, pretty much tried to get back on our horse type of game.”
The offensive line played a significant role in Gibbs’ success, executing blocks that paved the way for big plays. Offensive lineman Graham Glasgow expressed confidence in the game plan, stating, “I thought he called a good game today. I mean, I do think that there’s a two-sided coin. Could we always play better? Yes. Could the play-calling make things easier? Yes. But today I thought we played well.”
Teamwork and Energy
Head coach Dan Campbell noted the palpable energy within the team throughout the game. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, highlighting how players were committed to supporting each other on the field. “They were playing for the guy next to them,” Campbell said. “We had a lot of downfield blocks, just guys blocking for one another trying to finish the play for their teammate. Then in return, when the ball got in somebody else’s hands, then they would return the favor. It was just good, man. It was good energy out there. I was proud of those guys.”
The Lions executed the game plan effectively, managing to avoid any punts, a statistic Campbell found impressive. However, he acknowledged there were still aspects to improve upon. “There are things I’ve got to be better at and that we can clean up,” he remarked. “We could have been even a little bit better in that game.”
As the Lions continue to build on this momentum, Jahmyr Gibbs stands out not just as a key player, but as a symbol of the team’s resilience and determination to reclaim their place among the league’s elite.
