Injury Roulette Hits Lions and Bears Ahead of Week 2 Showdown

As the Detroit Lions prepare to face the Chicago Bears at Ford Field this Sunday afternoon, both teams are grappling with injuries that could significantly impact their performance. With a mix of ruled-out, questionable, and doubtful players, the injury report is shaping up to be a critical factor in this matchup.

Lions’ Injury Report

The Lions have one player officially ruled out for the contest: linebacker Trevor Nowaske, who is sidelined due to an elbow injury. This marks his second consecutive game on the inactive list. Running back Sione Vaki is also in jeopardy of missing another game, as he is listed as doubtful with a hamstring issue.

Detroit’s injury woes extend to two pivotal players who are considered questionable. Safety Kerby Joseph, who made a surprise appearance on the injury report last Friday with a knee issue, was limited in practice. Details regarding his condition remain scarce, leaving fans anxious about his availability. Left tackle Taylor Decker is also on the questionable list due to a shoulder injury. He has not practiced all week, but head coach Dan Campbell expressed cautious optimism regarding Decker’s status.

“He’s got a little bit of something here, and so we’re just trying to buy him some time where he feels better,” Campbell explained. “A lot of it, too, is the luxury of — Decker’s played a lot of football. He’ll be ready as long as it feels right. So, we feel good right now. And there, again, we’ve still got another day here, and we’ll see.”

Bears’ Injury Challenges

On the other side, the Bears are hopeful for the return of cornerback Jaylon Johnson, who was unexpectedly ruled out just before last week’s kickoff due to calf and groin injuries. However, they will be without fellow corner Kyler Gordon, who is again ruled out for the second week in a row with a hamstring injury. Gordon did not practice at all this week, raising concerns about his recovery.

Wide receiver Jahdae Walker is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, while defensive tackle Grady Jarrett has been upgraded to questionable after participating in a limited practice on Friday. His potential return could bolster the Bears’ defensive front.

Injury Designations Summary

Here’s a comprehensive look at the injury designations for both teams ahead of their Week 2 clash:

Detroit Lions Injury Designations

S Kerby Joseph (knee) – Questionable

LB Trevor Nowaske (elbow) – Out

Chicago Bears Injury Designations
