Giants Adjust Roster as Tomon Fox Waived Amid Linebacker Reinforcements

The New York Giants are continuing their efforts to shore up a depleted linebacker corps, making another roster move that highlights the team’s ongoing defensive shuffle.

Tomon Fox Waived from 53-Man Roster

In a surprising turn of events, the Giants waived outside linebacker Tomon Fox, who had been added to their 53-man roster just days earlier from the practice squad. The decision to include Fox in the lineup was likely intended to enhance the special teams unit and provide depth at both linebacker and along the defensive line.

During his brief stint, Fox participated in 14 defensive snaps and contributed 19 snaps on special teams. Despite his efforts, the statistics were not particularly impressive, as he recorded one pressure and no tackles on defense, nor did he make any tackles on special teams.

Seeking Linebacker Help

Recognizing the urgent need for reinforcement at linebacker, the Giants held a workout on Monday for four potential additions, according to league transaction reports. The players who participated included:

Ty Summers
Jonas Griffith
Luke Masterson
Jacoby Windmon

Among them, Giants fans may remember Ty Summers, who was with the team last season and this summer before suffering an injury that led to his placement on injured reserve on August 4. Summers was primarily a special teams player and finished last season as the team’s leader in special teams tackles, amassing seven, including five solo. After being waived with an injury settlement, it seems the Giants are hoping to evaluate his current status.

Xavier Gipson’s Brief Tenure

In a separate roster maneuver, receiver and kickoff specialist Xavier Gipson has experienced a tumultuous week. After being waived by the Jets last Monday, Gipson was claimed off waivers by the Giants, where he practiced throughout the week. However, he was waived again on Saturday to create space for Fox. The Giants had intentions of re-signing Gipson to their practice squad, but he was subsequently claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles, marking a swift end to his short-lived tenure with New York.

As the Giants navigate these roster changes, fans are left wondering what the next steps are for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
