Giants turn to rookie Cam Skattebo as Tyrone Tracy Jr. faces extended absence

The New York Giants are bracing for a challenging few weeks as they will be without their starting running back, Tyrone Tracy Jr. The dynamic player is expected to miss between two to four weeks due to a dislocated shoulder, an injury sustained during Sunday night’s 22-9 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tracy, a promising rookie in 2024, had a productive season last year, amassing over 1,000 total yards and serving as the Giants’ primary ground threat. However, this season has not yet seen him find his rhythm, as he struggled to exceed 10 carries in a game prior to his injury.

Skattebo steps into the spotlight

With Tracy sidelined, all eyes will now be on rookie Cam Skattebo, who is poised to take over as the Giants’ lead back. Skattebo, a standout performer from Arizona State, dazzled during his collegiate career, compiling more than 2,000 scrimmage yards in his final season before entering the NFL Draft.

So far in his brief NFL tenure, Skattebo has showcased his skills with 23 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns over three games. This 5’10”, 220-pound rookie has already captured attention not just for his on-field prowess but for his exuberant personality. Following a recent touchdown, Skattebo celebrated with a backflip followed by a surfing gesture, a display that has endeared him to fans.

A new chapter for the Giants

As the Giants navigate this period without Tracy, they will look to Skattebo to provide a spark in the running game. With his blend of speed and agility, he has the potential to become a key player in the team’s offensive strategy. The Giants’ coaching staff will be counting on his ability to step up and deliver in a crucial role, making the upcoming weeks a pivotal moment for both Skattebo and the franchise.
