George Pickens Responds to Criticism After Cowboys’ Loss

The Dallas Cowboys faced a surprising defeat against the Detroit Lions in Week 14, and the fallout was immediate. Analysts and pundits wasted no time in scrutinizing the team, which entered December riding a three-game winning streak. Among those targeted was wide receiver George Pickens, who has been enjoying a breakout season. Following the loss, Pickens found himself on the receiving end of criticism regarding his effort during the game, prompting him to fire back in a now-deleted social media post.

Contract Concerns Amid Criticism

Despite the backlash, Pickens is poised to enter free agency with significant expectations for a lucrative contract. However, not everyone believes he is worth the investment. Three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth voiced his doubts, sharing his perspective on a local radio show.

Schlereth expressed skepticism about Pickens’ value, stating, “There is no way that I would pay George Pickens. I wish I could buy him for what he’s worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth.” He elaborated on his concerns, suggesting that Pickens’ demeanor on the field could be problematic. “I saw him film his own slow-motion movie on Thursday night. When he’s not the target, he’s not interested. You can have that. Sometimes you have to let go of really good players because they’re not the right fit for your team.”

Support from Coaching Staff and Teammates

Despite the criticisms from Schlereth and others, Pickens continues to have the backing of the Cowboys’ coaching staff and front office. Both Jerry and Stephen Jones have publicly stated their desire to see Pickens remain in Dallas. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has also lauded the young receiver’s contributions.

Moreover, quarterback Dak Prescott has expressed his support, emphasizing his commitment to advocating for Pickens’ return. This camaraderie suggests that unless something significant changes in the latter part of the season, the Cowboys may very well retain their talented wideout.

Looking Ahead

As the Cowboys move forward from this loss, the narrative surrounding George Pickens will undoubtedly evolve. Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on his performance, especially as discussions about his future with the team heat up. The potential for a blockbuster contract looms, and how Pickens responds to the latest wave of criticism will be crucial as the season progresses.
