George Pickens shines for Cowboys, predicts slant route success
George Pickens has proven to be a game-changing addition for the Dallas Cowboys following his offseason trade. As the team heads into Week 14, Pickens boasts impressive career highs with 73 receptions, 1,142 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns. Beyond the statistics, his ability to perform in critical moments has been a significant asset for the Cowboys.
In their recent matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Pickens made a pivotal 24-yard reception that set up the game-winning field goal with less than a minute remaining. His contributions didn’t stop there; he also secured a crucial 13-yard catch on third down late in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, allowing the Cowboys to run out the clock and seal the victory.
Reliance on Slant Routes
A substantial portion of Pickens’ success this season can be attributed to his effectiveness on slant patterns. When discussing his ability to exploit defenses, he confidently stated that these routes are “inevitable.”
“It’s kind of inevitable. It’s gonna happen regardless,” Pickens explained. “Because I can beat it against 2-man, man, 3, 4, it’s a window thing. There’s nothing they can do to win. I got the go-ball, the stop route, slant. And now they’re kinda focusing on the slant and I still got the go-ball. There’s a lot of stuff.”
His ability to adapt and maintain versatility in his route running has made it increasingly difficult for defenses to contain him. As he continues to develop his chemistry with the Cowboys’ offense, there’s no doubt that the team will look to capitalize on his unique skill set in the weeks to come.
