George Pickens and Javonte Williams face fines following Week 7 infractions
The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for their Week 8 match against the Denver Broncos, fresh off a commanding victory against the Washington Commanders. However, despite the success on the field, several players are dealing with consequences from their recent game, as announced on Saturday.
Fines for Cowboys Players
Star wide receiver George Pickens and running back Javonte Williams headline a group of four Cowboys players who have been fined for infractions committed during Week 7. The fines were issued for incidents that went unpenalized during the actual game.
The other players fined include starting safety Donovan Wilson and offensive lineman Brock Hoffman. Among these, Wilson received the most significant penalty, reflecting the league’s scrutiny of player conduct on the field.
George Pickens’ Penalty History
In previous weeks, Pickens has found himself in the league’s crosshairs. He was hit with two fines during the Cowboys’ Week 2 victory against the New York Giants, totaling $28,982. The fines included $14,491 for removing his helmet and another $14,491 for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty related to a touchdown celebration alongside teammate CeeDee Lamb.
His latest infraction—a fine of $11,593 for taunting—came after he made a notable catch against Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore. This latest fine brings his season total to a hefty $40,575.
Javonte Williams and Other Fines
Williams, who also made waves in the recent game, was fined $16,830 for illegal helmet use after making contact with Lattimore. This occurred during the opening drive, as Williams barreled forward for a nine-yard gain.
Offensive lineman Brock Hoffman also faced a fine for taunting, although his penalty was less severe at $6,111. The specifics of his infraction remain unclear, but it was deemed excessive by the league.
Donovan Wilson’s Significant Fine
Wilson’s fine stands out as the largest of the group, amounting to $23,186 for illegal helmet use. His infraction occurred while making a pivotal play, hitting Commanders running back Jeremy McNichols out of bounds to prevent a touchdown. Although the hit was not flagged during the game, the league took a hard stance on the safety violation.
Looking Ahead to Week 8
As the Cowboys prepare to face the Denver Broncos in a crucial matchup, they will aim to avoid further fines and injuries. The game is set to kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET, with CBS broadcasting the action as Jim Nantz and Tony Romo provide commentary. Tracy Wolfson will be on the sidelines relaying updates throughout the contest.
With the pressure mounting, this game could serve as a pivotal moment in shaping the Cowboys’ trajectory for the rest of the season.
