George Holani Leaves His Mark with a Game-Changing Touchdown and a Remarkable Journey to the Seahawks

George Holani made a significant impact in Week 2, seizing the spotlight with a remarkable touchdown following an unexpected kickoff from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The moment was a testament to his tenacity and determination, qualities that have characterized Holani’s football journey. In his second year with the Seattle Seahawks, he continues to carve out his niche, even if he hasn’t yet become a household name in the Pacific Northwest.

Who Is George Holani?

At 25 years old, Holani serves as a running back and special teams contributor for the Seahawks. Hailing from Bellflower, California, he honed his skills at St. John Bosco High School, where he was recognized as a three-star recruit. His collegiate career began at Boise State in the 2019 season, where he quickly made a name for himself on the field.

A Close-Knit Family Background

Holani’s upbringing was shaped by a large family; he is one of 11 siblings, a testament to his parents’ Tongan heritage. Growing up with ten brothers and sisters, he often took on the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings. This experience prepared him well for the rigorous demands of college football at Boise State, where he learned the value of hard work and perseverance.

College Career Highlights

During his freshman year at Boise State, Holani rushed for an impressive 1,014 yards. However, his subsequent seasons were marred by challenges, including a COVID-shortened season and injuries in 2021. Holani rebounded in 2022, finishing strong with 1,157 yards and 10 touchdowns. Yet, in 2023, he faced a setback as he played in the shadow of teammate Ashton Jeanty, who dominated the ground game with 1,347 yards on 220 carries. Holani contributed with 748 yards on 134 carries, but he felt the sting of being overshadowed in his final collegiate season.

NFL Journey Begins

Despite his achievements, Holani went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, his determination and skill caught the attention of the Seahawks, who signed him shortly thereafter.

Rookie Season with the Seahawks

In his rookie season, Holani appeared in five games for Seattle. His contributions included three carries and a reception, along with a special teams tackle. As he continues to develop in the NFL, Holani’s role is expected to expand, showcasing the talent that led him to the professional ranks.

Holani’s journey from a bustling household in California to the NFL exemplifies resilience and grit. As he navigates his career with the Seahawks, he remains a player to watch—one whose story is just beginning to unfold.
