From Bodybuilding to NFL Stardom, the St. Brown Family Flexes Unique Legacy On and Off the Field

The St. Brown family has carved out a remarkable legacy in the world of athletics, particularly within the NFL, where Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as a standout wide receiver for the Detroit Lions. His journey from college football to a professional career is a testament not only to his talent but also to the unique upbringing and support provided by his family.

Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Rise in the NFL

Since his rookie season, Amon-Ra St. Brown has proven himself to be one of the most formidable wideouts in the league. Drafted in the fourth round in 2021 out of USC, he quickly made teams regret overlooking him during the draft. His seamless transition from an elite collegiate athlete to a professional player has elevated him to a place among the NFL’s top receivers.

The St. Brown Family Legacy

Amon-Ra is not the only athlete in his family. His brothers, Equanimeous and Osiris St. Brown, have also made their mark in sports, showcasing a family legacy rooted in dedication, talent, and a unique approach to both athletics and life.

Father John Brown: From Bodybuilding to Football

At the heart of the St. Brown family’s athletic journey is their father, John Brown. A former bodybuilder hailing from Compton, California, he played football during his time at Compton Dominguez High School. His passion for bodybuilding led him to compete extensively, where he met his wife Miriam in Germany during one of his competitions.

John’s influence on his sons extends beyond genetics. He deliberately chose unique names for his children, wanting them to stand out. “My name was very mundane,” John shared, emphasizing his desire for his sons to have distinctive identities. This philosophy even led him to add “St.” to their last name, turning “Brown” into “St. Brown,” a decision that has undoubtedly made an impression on the football field.

John Brown’s Bodybuilding Achievements

John Brown is not just a supportive father; he is a notable figure in bodybuilding, having won two Mr. Universe titles in 1981 and 1982, along with three Mr. World championships. His experiences in sports shaped his view on competition. “I felt that it would be better for me to be in an individual sport instead of a team sport,” he noted, reflecting on his transition from football to bodybuilding.

Introduced to weightlifting at a young age, Amon-Ra and his brothers were guided by their father’s philosophy of strength and discipline. John even developed a protein supplement called “Cane Protein,” which his sons now help promote, blending their athletic careers with business.

Miriam St. Brown: A Multilingual Influence

Amon-Ra’s mother, Miriam St. Brown, plays an equally pivotal role in the family’s dynamic. Originally from Germany, she moved to California with John after their marriage. Miriam’s commitment to her children’s education included instilling multilingualism. “It was never a question to me… that my children should speak different languages,” she explained, ensuring that Amon-Ra and his brothers learned both German and French.

Her dedication to education extended beyond language, as she enrolled her sons in a French academy and even took them to Paris for a semester. Amon-Ra recalls the experience fondly, expressing that he went along with it, as he had few friends at the time.

Brotherhood and Athletic Pursuits

Equanimeous St. Brown, Amon-Ra’s older brother, also found success in the NFL. After a standout college career at Notre Dame, he was drafted in the sixth round by the Green Bay Packers in 2018. His journey has included stints with the Saints, Bears, and 49ers, showcasing his versatility as a wide receiver.

The bond between the St. Brown brothers extends off the field as well. They co-host the “St. Brown Brothers Podcast,” where they discuss their football careers and share insights with notable guests, including former NFL stars. Their collaborative efforts reflect a close-knit family dynamic that thrives on mutual support and shared experiences.

Osiris St. Brown: A Different Path

Osiris St. Brown, the other older brother, took a slightly different route in his athletic career. He played at Stanford from 2017 to 2020, where he made a name for himself with impressive performances on the field. After graduating in 2021, Osiris shifted gears to become a financial advisor, utilizing his education and experiences from his time at Stanford.

John Brown has often remarked on the unique talents of his sons, noting, “People always ask, ‘Who the best is out of all of them?’ I go, ‘It depends on the situation.’” His metaphor likening them to different genres of music—Equanimeous as soul, Osiris as jazz, and Amon-Ra as rap—highlights their individual strengths and the diverse paths they’ve taken.

Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Roots

Amon-Ra St. Brown hails from Anaheim Hills, California, where he attended Servite High School before transferring to Mater Dei High School. His journey through various schools and experiences has shaped him into the player he is today, embodying the dedication and spirit of the St. Brown family.

As they continue to make their mark in professional sports, the St. Brown family exemplifies the power of legacy, ambition, and the bonds that strengthen their pursuit of excellence. Their story is not just about individual success but also the collective journey of a family united by their love for sports and each other.
