Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Chris Hoke recently found himself at the center of a bizarre car theft incident that escalated into a high-speed chase, leaving the NFL veteran both shocked and disheartened.

During an appearance on the “Pomp and Joe” podcast, Hoke recounted the circumstances surrounding the theft of his beloved Chrysler. He revealed that two teenagers allegedly smashed the back passenger side window to gain access to the vehicle. Surprisingly, the thieves were able to program a new key for the car, even though Hoke had his original key in his possession.
“Isn’t that crazy?” Hoke remarked about the theft. “My understanding is that two teenagers bashed in the back passenger side window. They used some kind of device to program a key to my car. I had a key with me. I didn’t know that was possible.”
The Aftermath of the Chase
The stolen Chrysler, which Hoke had treasured for nearly a decade, was later involved in a dramatic police pursuit that ultimately ended in a crash. The chase began in Canfield, Ohio, and concluded when the vehicle collided with a Highway Patrol cruiser on Shirley Road in Youngstown. Thankfully, the trooper inside the cruiser sustained no serious injuries.
Reflecting on the loss, Hoke expressed his deep attachment to the car. “I love that car. I’ve had it for about eight years. Ten years? It’s totaled. I’ll never get the value out of it that it was to me.”

In the wake of the incident, law enforcement has charged both suspects involved in the theft with receiving stolen property. Additionally, one of the teenagers faces further charges for failure to comply with police orders, while the other has been charged with possession of criminal tools.
