Falcons Gear Up for Commanders Showdown with Key Players on Injury Report

The Atlanta Falcons are preparing to host the Washington Commanders this Sunday, eager to secure a much-needed victory against a competitive opponent. As they gear up for the clash, the health status of several players, particularly cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr., remains a focal point for the team.

A.J. Terrell’s Status Uncertain

A.J. Terrell Jr. has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury, missing last week’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris addressed Terrell’s condition during a press conference, noting that the cornerback is still considered “week-to-week.”

“He’s hopeful. I’m hopeful,” Morris stated, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding Terrell’s availability. “If not, he’ll be down this week; you’ve got the bye. You can for sure give him some time after that.”

Terrell has been a critical asset for the Falcons’ defense, allowing only five receptions for 42 yards this season, even against elite wide receivers like Mike Evans and Justin Jefferson. In his absence, Dee Alford stepped up admirably, playing nearly every snap last week and allowing just one catch for nine yards.

Dee Alford Steps Up

Morris praised Alford’s performance, highlighting his competitiveness against top-tier talent. “Dee Alford was absolutely amazing last week. He competed at a very high level,” Morris remarked. “He had a couple of knockdown passes and gave us a chance to find a way to get back into that game.”

With Terrell’s potential absence, Alford’s role will be crucial in containing the Commanders’ offensive threats.

Injury Updates on Other Players

Beyond Terrell, the Falcons’ injury report revealed other concerns. Wide receivers James Pearce Jr. and Jamal Agnew remain limited in practice due to groin injuries. Agnew has not seen action in the last two games, making his status particularly important as the team prepares for a high-stakes contest.

Meanwhile, special teams standout KhaDarel Hodge and running back Nathan Carter both missed their second consecutive practice, necessitating close monitoring as the week progresses.

Positive Signs for Key Contributors

On a brighter note, tight end Kyle Pitts Sr., safety DeMarcco Hellams, and receiver Casey Washington all participated fully in Thursday’s practice after being limited the previous day. Washington, who has been recovering from a concussion sustained in Week 1, appears to have cleared the necessary protocols, positioning him to make his return this weekend.
