Eagles’ Jalen Carter sidelined by unexpected double shoulder procedure
PHILADELPHIA – As the Philadelphia Eagles gear up for their highly anticipated Monday night clash against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, the team has released its first practice report of the week. However, the day took a surprising turn with the announcement that second-team All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter underwent an unexpected procedure on both shoulders. This setback will keep Carter on the sidelines for the Chargers game and potentially for additional matchups in the near future.
Carter is believed to have received Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections in both shoulders, a treatment aimed at alleviating persistent pain that appears to stem from the previous season. Last year, the emerging star logged an impressive 1,065 snaps, the highest for any interior defensive lineman in the league, as he played a crucial role in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX run.
Despite his considerable resilience, Carter has battled shoulder issues throughout the spring and summer, attempting to manage the pain during the Eagles’ current 8-4 campaign. Following a lackluster performance in a Black Friday defeat to the Chicago Bears, the coaching staff made the decision to prioritize Carter’s long-term health, aiming to position him favorably for a potential postseason run.
In addition to Carter’s absence, the Eagles will also be without second-team All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson, who is dealing with a Lisfranc sprain. Both players were notably the only members of Philadelphia’s 53-man roster who did not participate in Thursday’s practice.
Defensive Backfield Help?
With injuries impacting the roster, the Eagles may look to bolster their defensive backfield. Veteran safety Marcus Epps was observed at practice on August 28, hinting at potential adjustments the team could make to cover for the loss of key players. The Eagles will need to strategize effectively to maintain their momentum as they prepare for a critical matchup against the Chargers.
