Drew Brees makes a brief comeback to broadcasting for Fox’s Week 3 NFL coverage

Drew Brees is poised to re-enter the broadcasting arena. The legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback, who previously spent a year at NBC working on “Football Night in America” and provided commentary for various Notre Dame and NFL games, will take on the role of a guest analyst for Fox’s Week 3 NFL lineup.

Brees is set to appear on both “Fox NFL Kickoff” and “Fox NFL Sunday” during this pivotal week, as reported by Sports Business Journal.

Brees’ Role at Fox

Fox Sports has enlisted Brees as a guest analyst specifically for Week 3. This arrangement is seen as a one-off opportunity, with no long-term commitments on the horizon. Brees will be filling in for Julian Edelman, the former New England Patriots receiver, who is being honored with an induction into the team’s Hall of Fame during the same weekend. The induction ceremony for Edelman and coaching legend Bill Parcells is scheduled for Saturday, September 20.

In this temporary role, Brees will join the talented “Fox NFL Kickoff” team, which includes Charissa Thompson, Charles Woodson, and Jay Glazer, before transitioning to the “Fox NFL Sunday” crew later in the day.

Brees’ Broadcasting Background

While Brees does not have a full-time position with Fox, his experience in the broadcasting realm is noteworthy. After retiring from professional football, he took on NFL studio duties with NBC, contributing to “Football Night in America” before departing the network prior to the 2022 season. In addition to studio work, Brees has lent his voice to live broadcasts of Notre Dame and NFL games.

Looking ahead, Brees is also anticipated to return to the broadcast booth for the NFL Christmas Day games. According to NBC Sports, he has been selected as an in-game analyst alongside Noah Eagle for Netflix’s matchup between the Lions and Vikings on Christmas Day.

This temporary stint at Fox offers Brees a chance to engage with fans once more, reflecting his continued connection to the sport even after stepping back from the field.
