Drake London’s PCL Injury Puts Falcons’ Jets Matchup in Question
The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for their Week 13 showdown against the New York Jets, but the absence of star wide receiver Drake London looms large. London is dealing with a PCL injury sustained during the team’s Week 11 loss to the Carolina Panthers. His condition forced him to miss last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, and head coach Raheem Morris has now confirmed his doubtful status for Sunday’s contest.
Morris Provides Update on London
“I’m going to give him all week,” Morris stated during a Wednesday press conference. Initially categorized as a “week-to-week” situation, Morris indicated that London’s status is now leaning toward “doubtful.”
“[London] looks good. He’s moving around. I’m happy that we’ll be getting him back soon, just not how soon,” he added. While there remains a slim possibility that London could make a last-minute appearance against the Jets, Morris expressed skepticism about his availability. “I don’t think it’s this week,” he confirmed.
London’s Impact on the Falcons’ Offense
Drake London is not just any player on the Falcons’ roster; he is the clear leader in receiving statistics this season. With 60 receptions, 810 yards, and six touchdowns, London has become a vital component of the team’s passing attack. Prior to his injury, he commanded an impressive 31.8% target share, ranking third in the NFL.
In last Sunday’s game without London, the Falcons managed to secure a victory against the struggling Saints. Darnell Mooney stepped up, delivering his best performance of the year with three catches for 74 yards and his first touchdown. Additionally, David Sills V marked a personal milestone, scoring his first career touchdown in the same game.
Looking Ahead for the Falcons
As the Falcons head into their matchup against another team in turmoil, the Jets, they may find a way to cope without London once more. The Jets’ recent trades of star defensive players could present opportunities for Atlanta’s offense. However, London’s prolonged absence could pose significant challenges, particularly as the Falcons face a tough schedule ahead, including matchups against the Seahawks, Buccaneers, and Rams in the final stretch of the season.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding London, Morris remains optimistic about his eventual return. “I think we’ll get him back at some point,” he noted, hinting that the Falcons may not have seen the last of their top receiver just yet.
