Dolphins Boost Practice Squad with New Offensive Linemen as Waller Prepares for Jets

The Miami Dolphins have made strategic moves to enhance their practice squad, adding two offensive linemen following workouts with four candidates. This decision is pivotal as the team gears up for their upcoming clash against the New York Jets.

New Additions to the Practice Squad

On Tuesday, the Dolphins signed Roy Mbaeteka and Kadeem Telfort after evaluating their skills alongside Logan Brown and Richard Gouraige.

Roy Mbaeteka: A promising addition, Mbaeteka brings a blend of size and agility to the offensive line.
Kadeem Telfort: Telfort, known for his versatility, adds depth to the squad.

Logan Brown, a rookie from the University of Kansas (previously from Wisconsin), went undrafted before connecting with the Minnesota Vikings and most recently the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad. Richard Gouraige, another undrafted prospect, previously played for the University of Florida and spent two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he was elevated for a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the eventual AFC champions.

Practice Report: Team Readiness

The Dolphins resumed practice this Tuesday with a lighter session ahead of their day off on Wednesday, as they prepare for a Monday night showdown. During the media-accessible portion, all active roster players were present, except cornerbacks Richard Marshall Jr. and Storm Duck, both of whom are anticipated to miss the Week 4 game against the Jets.

One notable returner was safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who had been sidelined due to a calf injury. Tight end Darren Waller also participated, showcasing his capabilities more than he had throughout the summer. Waller impressively caught a pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during a passing drill, signaling his increasing readiness.

Waller’s Expected Debut

Head coach Mike McDaniel expressed optimism regarding Waller’s debut against the Jets. However, he noted that Waller would likely have restrictions on his playtime, commonly referred to as a pitch count.

Former Dolphins Making Moves

With Marshall’s absence, Cornell Armstrong is expected to step in as the nickel cornerback. Mike Hilton, who was released during the 53-man roster cuts, has secured a spot on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. Hilton’s return to the NFL comes at a critical time, as the Colts deal with injuries, including that of Kenny Moore, who is out with a calf issue. Hilton joins fellow former Dolphin Xavien Howard in Indianapolis, making for an intriguing reunion.

Additionally, safety Patrick McMorris has signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad after trying out for the team. McMorris was a sixth-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2024 draft but was among the final cuts.

With these changes and preparations, the Dolphins are not just looking to bolster depth but are also setting the stage for a competitive matchup against the Jets.
