De’Von Achane’s Stellar Month Earns AFC Offensive Player of the Month Honors
The Miami Dolphins have captured the NFL’s attention, largely due to the electrifying performances of their rookie running back, De’Von Achane. On Wednesday, Achane was honored as the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November, an accolade that highlights his remarkable contributions during a stretch that spanned Weeks 9 to 13. This award is particularly significant as it marks Achane’s first, making him the first Dolphins running back to receive this recognition and the fifth player in franchise history to earn the honor.
Impressive Performance During Key Games
Achane’s November was nothing short of spectacular. He showcased his skills by achieving three consecutive games with over 120 rushing yards, leading the Dolphins to victories against formidable opponents including the Buffalo Bills, the Washington Commanders, and the New Orleans Saints. Notably, despite the Dolphins having a bye week on November 23, Achane led the NFL in rushing during the designated period, accumulating 495 rushing yards. His versatility was also evident as he recorded 17 receptions, although he was notably shut out in the passing game during the narrow 21-17 win over New Orleans.
Historic Streaks and Comparisons
Achane’s achievement of three straight games with at least 100 rushing yards marks the first such streak for the Dolphins since Jay Ajayi’s impressive run in 2016. Ajayi had back-to-back 200-yard games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills, ultimately totaling 529 yards over three games. However, the record for the best three-game stretch belongs to Ricky Williams, who amassed 587 yards in a similar timeframe during the 2002 season, including two games over 200 yards.
This recent stretch places Achane among the elite in Dolphins history. He joins Ricky Williams as the only players to have multiple three-game stretches with over 100 rushing yards. Achane’s breakout moment came earlier this season with a staggering 203-yard performance in the Dolphins’ historic 70-point game against the Denver Broncos, followed by games of 101 yards against Buffalo and 151 yards against the New York Giants.
Looking Ahead
As Achane prepares to extend his streak to four consecutive games with 100 rushing yards, he will face the New York Jets, a team he rushed for 99 yards against earlier this season. The franchise record for consecutive 100-yard games is held by Ricky Williams, who accomplished the feat five times during Weeks 11 to 15 in 2002, leading the league in rushing that season with a total of 1,853 yards. While Achane’s current run may not yet reach those heights, it stands as a testament to his growing impact in the league and his potential to further etch his name in Dolphins lore.
Achane’s remarkable performances not only highlight his talent but also signal a promising future for the Dolphins as they continue to excel in the competitive landscape of the NFL.
