Lions Coach Dan Campbell Teases Potential Return of Star Receiver for Cowboys Showdown
The Detroit Lions are holding out hope that their standout wide receiver will be ready to take the field against the Dallas Cowboys this Thursday night. Head coach Dan Campbell provided an optimistic update on the fifth-year player during a pre-practice session on Tuesday, revealing that while the receiver is feeling better, he will not participate in practice that day.
“He’s better. That’s the best way to say it,” Campbell remarked. “But I don’t see him practicing today, you know? But he is better, you know? So I know this: if he can play, he’ll play. You know, that’s the best way to say it.”
Jameson Williams Steps Up
In the event their star receiver cannot go, the Lions may turn to Jameson Williams to spearhead the offense. The young wideout has been making strides, particularly evident in the recent game against the Packers, where he displayed enhanced route-running skills and the ability to gain yards after the catch. The coaching staff has lauded Williams’ performance, highlighting his readiness when called upon.
“I think it’s great; I think he stepped up last week,” said offensive coordinator John Morton. “I mean, the quarterback made some great throws. I think he was hitting 15 completions in a row at one time. He did a great job. That’s what he’s supposed to do. We put him in the right spot, the quarterback made the throw. He’s a weapon, just like (Lions running back Jahmyr) Gibbs is. When you’ve got some guys that are weapons, it’s kind of cool.”
Morton emphasized the importance of Williams’ recent performances, noting how confidence builds through successful games. “It was great to see that he did that. He’s had a few games now that he’s stepped up. So, I love it. And as a receiver, as any player, you build confidence like that, let’s go. That’s kind of cool.”
Dealing with Injuries
Campbell was also asked about the season-ending shoulder injury suffered by Terrion Arnold, reflecting on whether it was a result of his playing style or simply bad luck.
“Yeah, it’s been frustrating. I know it’s frustrating for him,” Campbell acknowledged. “But no, it just feels like one of those years. I mean, I wouldn’t say there’s anything out of the norm. He did get off to a really good start in camp, and then the bug hit him, and it just kind of was one thing to another. But yeah, it’s just one of those years. It’s a tough year for him.”
As the Lions prepare for their matchup against the Cowboys, the situation surrounding their top receiver remains fluid, with hopes high for a possible return that could impact their game strategy significantly.
