Denver Broncos’ Riley Moss shocks critics despite penalties, vows comeback after sensational Burks touchdown

Riley Moss Faces Challenges Yet Declares Intent for a Strong Comeback

The conversation surrounding Denver Broncos cornerback Riley Moss remains a complex one. Despite being one of the most targeted defenders in the NFL this season, he has managed to maintain a commendable completion percentage against him—53.2%—which is among the lowest in the league. However, public sentiment about Moss is still mixed, largely due to his struggles with penalties.

Penalties Cast a Shadow

Moss has found himself in the spotlight for being the NFL’s most-penalized player for a significant portion of the season. Yet, there is a silver lining; in three of the last four games, he managed to play without incurring any penalties, including a notable performance in last week’s victory over the Washington Commanders. Despite this progress, he did surrender a touchdown to Treylon Burks, who executed one of the most remarkable catches seen this season. The reality is that no cornerback is invincible against a perfectly thrown pass or an exceptional reception.

Commitment to Improvement

Since the Broncos’ Week 11 triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs, Moss has expressed a strong determination to reduce his penalty count. This commitment involves a delicate balance; he must refine his technique without stifling the instinct and confidence that make him a formidable player. Broncos head coach Sean Payton emphasized the importance of this balance in a recent statement.

“I think you are always studying technique and working on it. One of his great strengths is his confidence level and how he plays the game, and I think it’s necessary… at that position,” Payton remarked about Moss. He added, “We keep going, and when the calls—when some of them come in, then you just keep competing.”

As the Broncos continue their season, all eyes will be on Moss as he navigates these challenges. His ability to adapt and grow in the face of adversity will be crucial not only for his performance but also for the team’s success moving forward.
