Broncos Gear Up for Chiefs Clash with Return of Garret Wallow
The Denver Broncos are set to bolster their inside linebacker corps just in time for a crucial matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. On Wednesday, the team announced that they have designated Garret Wallow for return from injured reserve, marking a significant step in his recovery process.
Wallow’s Return to Practice
Wallow, who practiced with the team on Wednesday, now has a 21-day window to be activated to the 53-man roster. The Broncos may choose to add him back to the lineup ahead of their pivotal game this Sunday at home against the Chiefs. Originally drafted in the fifth round by the Tennessee Titans, Wallow joined the Broncos in August and spent time on the practice squad following the final roster cuts. He was elevated to the active roster on October 4 and participated in five games this season, accumulating four tackles over 90 special-teams snaps before suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him.
Impact on the Linebacking Unit
Wallow’s potential return comes as the Broncos face significant challenges within their linebacker unit. Star linebacker Alex Singleton is currently recovering from surgery for testicular cancer, while fellow reserve Karene Reid was placed on injured reserve just days ago. Additionally, Drew Sanders remains on IR with no clear timeline for his return. Should Wallow play in Week 11, he would provide much-needed depth and support for a unit in dire need of reinforcements.
Recent Roster Moves
In addition to Wallow’s return, the Broncos have made several roster adjustments this week. They signed offensive tackle Garon Christian from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the New York Giants’ practice squad. This marks Humphrey’s third season in Denver, and head coach Sean Payton expressed confidence in his capabilities.
“He brings a lot of versatility and football I.Q.,” Payton said about Humphrey. “We wanted to ensure we had depth at that position as we navigate this stretch. It was a bit unusual to see him on the opponent’s sideline a few weeks back, but we’re glad to have him back.”
Moreover, the Broncos have re-signed defensive end Garrett Nelson to their practice squad after he was waived on October 28. These strategic moves reflect the team’s commitment to strengthening their roster as they approach a critical phase of the season.
With Wallow’s impending return and the recent roster adjustments, the Broncos are positioning themselves to face the Chiefs with a renewed sense of hope and resilience. The upcoming game promises to be an intense contest, and every addition to the roster could make a critical difference.
