Denver Broncos shake up roster with key promotions ahead of Green Bay clash

The Denver Broncos have made significant roster adjustments as they prepare for their Week 15 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. On Saturday, the team announced the promotion of inside linebacker Jordan Turner, along with the elevation of quarterback Sam Ehlinger and wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad to the active roster.

Roster Movement and Openings

This reshaping of the roster comes in light of the Broncos waiving tight end Marcedes Lewis on Thursday, which created an open spot on the 53-man roster. The moves reflect a strategic response to the team’s ongoing needs as they gear up for their crucial game against Green Bay.

Turner’s Role and Contributions

Jordan Turner, an undrafted rookie, has shown his potential during his brief time with the Broncos. Appearing in three games this season, he has tallied three tackles over 49 snaps, primarily contributing on special teams. As he continues to develop under special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi, Turner will also provide depth behind starting inside linebackers Dre Greenlaw and Alex Singleton.

Ehlinger’s Journey with the Broncos

Sam Ehlinger has had a fluctuating tenure with the Broncos since joining the team in April. Serving as the third quarterback behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, he has oscillated between the active roster and the practice squad. Recently, Ehlinger turned down an opportunity to rejoin the Indianapolis Colts, opting instead to remain within the Broncos’ system, indicating his commitment to the team’s coaching staff and philosophy.

Bandy’s Opportunity in the Receiving Corps

Michael Bandy, now entering his third year with the Broncos, has made minimal statistical contributions this season, with just one catch for 16 yards across two games. However, with rookie receiver Pat Bryant sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Bandy is set to step up as a deep reserve wide receiver against the Packers. Should he be active for the game, Bandy is expected to also contribute on special teams, adding further depth to the Broncos’ roster.

As the Broncos prepare for their upcoming clash, these roster changes not only reflect a tactical approach but also highlight the team’s commitment to maximizing the contributions of its players.
