DeMeco Ryans defends Texans’ approach: Running game is our secret weapon

Houston Texans’ head coach DeMeco Ryans has made it clear that his team’s focus remains steadfast, even as they enjoy a successful run. Following a victory over the Arizona Cardinals, Ryans emphasized the importance of maintaining an incremental mindset, a mantra he insists is crucial for his players as they strive for success.

“For me, I know you guys don’t want to hear this, I didn’t know it was six in a row until you just told me,” Ryans remarked, reflecting on the team’s current six-game winning streak. The coach continued, “It’s that one-game-at-a-time mentality. I know nobody wants to hear it, but that’s what I believe.” His commitment to this philosophy underscores the importance of consistency in the NFL.

Ryans urged his players to focus on what they can control: their performance each week. “You go out and handle business each week, you’re just putting yourself in a better spot,” he explained. As the Texans stand at 9-5, the momentum builds toward a potential divisional title, especially with the Jacksonville Jaguars facing a challenging matchup against the Denver Broncos, who are currently riding a remarkable 11-game winning streak.

The Texans’ Ground Game: A Strategic Advantage

Looking ahead, the Texans are set to face the struggling Las Vegas Raiders, a matchup that many see as an opportunity to secure their 10th win of the season. However, Ryans remains vigilant against complacency, stressing the need to maintain discipline as the season winds down.

“The run game is always the key for me,” Ryans asserted, highlighting the integral role of rushing in their game plan. “We were able to execute better today, but that’s always the key going in. You have to be able to run the football really well no matter who you’re playing against, no matter where you’re playing.”

The coach emphasized that the team’s ability to execute a strong running game is foundational to their success. “To see it show up today, hopefully the guys understand that’s the formula. We just have to stick with it,” he added, reinforcing that the Texans’ commitment to the ground game will be essential in their pursuit of a playoff spot.

As the season progresses, Ryans remains focused on the fundamentals, knowing that the path to success lies in the hands of his players and their ability to execute on the field week after week.
