Cowboys’ Trade Aspirations Hit a Wall with Simmons Sticking with Titans

The Dallas Cowboys’ hopes of bolstering their defensive line through a trade at the NFL deadline have suffered a significant setback. One player who had been on their radar, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, is reportedly no longer available.

Cowboys Seek Defensive Reinforcements

As the trade deadline approaches, the Cowboys find themselves in urgent need of improvement on the defensive front. Their involvement in various trade rumors reflects this necessity. Simmons, the Titans’ first-round pick from 2019, has emerged as a prime candidate due to his reputation as one of the league’s most disruptive defenders.

The situation appeared promising for potential suitors when Simmons was sidelined for this week’s game, fueling speculation that he might be moved. However, recent reports suggest that the Titans are unlikely to part ways with him.

Simmons Remains with the Titans

Mike Florio, a prominent sports commentator, indicated that the Titans have no plans to trade Simmons. “When the Titans ruled out receiver Calvin Ridley and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons on Friday, some wondered whether they were being kept out of action in advance of a potential trade at the deadline,” he noted. “A source with knowledge of the situation said it’s doubtful that Simmons will be moved.”

For the Titans, retaining Simmons makes strategic sense. Trading away such a pivotal player would create a significant void in an already vulnerable defensive line, especially as they face the prospect of a rebuild.

The Value of Jeffery Simmons

Simmons’ potential availability had stirred excitement among Cowboys fans, as acquiring him would have likely required a first-round draft pick. Yet, the Cowboys are keen on enhancing their squad without depleting their valuable draft assets over the next two seasons.

While the Cowboys have promising talents like Osa Odighizuwa, the addition of Simmons would have created a dynamic duo at the 3-technique position. The prospect of deploying two explosive defensive tackles could have provided a much-needed edge, contrasting sharply with their current struggles.

As the deadline draws near, the Cowboys will need to pivot and explore other options. Despite their disappointment regarding Simmons, the pursuit of defensive reinforcements remains critical as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
