Dallas Cowboys Execute Last-Minute Roster Adjustments Before Week 8 Clash with Broncos

The Dallas Cowboys are making headlines with a surprising roster shakeup just before their highly anticipated Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos. In a strategic move, the team has elevated two players from the practice squad, aiming to bolster their lineup as they prepare for the challenge at Empower Field at Mile High.

Injury Challenges Prompt Roster Changes

With standout cornerback Trevon Diggs placed on injured reserve due to a significant injury, the Cowboys have had to rethink their defensive strategy. Diggs will be sidelined for at least four weeks, prompting the team to call up cornerback Corey Ballentine to the active roster for their upcoming game.

This decision comes amidst a flurry of adjustments as the Cowboys finalize their game plan for this pivotal matchup.

Malik Davis Returns to the Active Roster

In addition to Ballentine’s elevation, the Cowboys have also activated running back Malik Davis. This marks the second consecutive week that Davis has been included on the gameday roster. Under NFL rules, a practice squad player can be elevated for a maximum of three games in a season. If Davis is called up again following this game, it would result in a permanent spot on the 53-man roster.

Davis, now in his third season with the Cowboys, has appeared in 17 games, accumulating a total of 40 carries for 171 yards and one touchdown. He also made a contribution in the passing game during his rookie season, catching six passes for 63 yards.

Corey Ballentine’s Journey to Dallas

Ballentine, who joined the Cowboys’ practice squad in late September, brings a wealth of experience to the team. The 29-year-old cornerback was initially selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, he has navigated a winding path through the league, playing for eight different teams before landing in Dallas.

While neither Ballentine nor Davis are expected to be game-changers, their readiness to step onto the field could provide much-needed depth as the Cowboys face off against their AFC rivals.

Looking Ahead to the Matchup

As the Cowboys gear up for their Week 8 showdown against the Broncos, they are also facing a series of challenges, including injuries and roster adjustments. With key players like Diggs unavailable, the spotlight will be on the new additions to see how they can contribute to the team’s success.

Fans are eager to see how these last-minute roster moves will impact the game, and whether the Cowboys can continue their pursuit of a strong season amidst the evolving landscape of their roster.
