Dallas Cowboys reunite with Jalen Cropper in shocking practice squad shake-up

Dallas Cowboys reinstate Jalen Cropper amid practice squad overhaul

The Dallas Cowboys are making significant adjustments to their practice squad, highlighted by the return of wide receiver Jalen Cropper. This move comes as the team gears up for a crucial Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders, hoping to bolster their roster amid a series of injuries.

Injury Struggles Prompt Roster Changes

With the Cowboys’ receiving corps facing challenges due to injuries over the first six weeks of the NFL season, the organization is preparing to reshape its lineup. Cropper’s initial release came as the team anticipated the return of star receivers CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin, who have been sidelined. However, the Cowboys quickly re-signed Cropper to their practice squad, where he has spent a significant portion of his professional career.

Cropper’s contributions this season include appearances in three games, where he returned three punts for 27 yards and two kickoffs for 38 yards. His return to the practice squad aligns with the Cowboys’ strategy of maintaining depth and versatility in their receiving unit.

Potential Additions to the Roster

As the Cowboys navigate these adjustments, the opening on the 53-man roster created by Cropper’s move leaves room for potential reinforcements. One name that could fill this void is Jonathan Mingo, a former second-round pick from the Carolina Panthers. Acquired by the Cowboys before last season’s trade deadline, Mingo has yet to make a significant impact on the field but showcased potential during training camp and the preseason.

Unfortunately, Mingo began the season on injured reserve due to a sprained posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his right knee sustained during a game against the Baltimore Ravens. However, his 21-day window for return was activated earlier this month, allowing the Cowboys to consider activating him ahead of their upcoming game.

Looking Ahead to Week 7

With Lamb and Turpin expected to return to practice, the Cowboys are poised to strengthen their already potent offense. If Mingo is also activated, the team could present a fully loaded offensive lineup, creating a formidable challenge for the Commanders. As the Cowboys prepare for this critical matchup, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how these roster changes play out on the field.

The Cowboys’ proactive approach to their roster demonstrates their commitment to overcoming early-season hurdles, aiming to position themselves favorably as they head into the second half of the season.
