Adding to the frustration, a penalty on Malik Davis during KaVontae Turpin’s impressive return cost the Cowboys valuable field position. A false start by CeeDee Lamb on a critical third-and-five preceded a turnover on downs, as Hunter Luepke was denied on fourth-and-short, further compounding the team’s woes.
Defensive struggles persist
In a bid to rectify their defensive issues, the Cowboys made the decision to shift defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to the booth for this matchup. Unfortunately, the change did little to stem the tide of opposing offenses finding open receivers. The Chargers exploited the secondary effectively, with players like Ladd McConkey getting behind Trevon Diggs for a straightforward 25-yard touchdown.
