Dallas Cowboys ignite trade buzz with shocking inquiry for Raiders’ star Maxx Crosby

Dallas Cowboys spark trade speculation with inquiry for Raiders’ Maxx Crosby

The Dallas Cowboys appear poised to make a significant move as the NFL trade deadline approaches, with reports surfacing that they have reached out to the Las Vegas Raiders about acquiring standout edge rusher Maxx Crosby. This development comes at a pivotal moment for the Cowboys, who currently hold a record of 3-3-1, buoyed by a recent emphatic victory against the Washington Commanders.

Trade Talks Heat Up

According to NFL analyst Trey Wingo, the Cowboys have initiated discussions with the Raiders regarding a potential trade for Crosby, a player widely regarded as one of the elite edge rushers in the league. Wingo shared the news on social media, stating, “Breaking: according to sources, the Cowboys have made inquiries with the Raiders about a potential trade for Maxx Crosby.”

This inquiry signals Dallas’ intent to bolster their defense as they navigate the challenges of the season. With defensive struggles evident, particularly in their run defense and pass rush capability, the addition of a player of Crosby’s caliber could prove transformative.

Crosby’s Impressive Track Record

Maxx Crosby’s credentials are nothing short of impressive. The seasoned defensive end has built a solid reputation since entering the league, accumulating a staggering 63.6 sacks, 153 QB hits, and 115 tackles for loss over seven seasons. His performance this year alone includes four sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and nine QB hits, underscoring his ongoing dominance on the field.

Crosby recently signed a three-year extension worth $106.5 million, a deal that guarantees him $91.5 million—making him, at that time, the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. This contract keeps him in Las Vegas through the 2029 season, raising questions about the feasibility of such a trade for Dallas.

Parsons’ Departure and Defensive Needs

Ironically, the Cowboys’ interest in Crosby comes on the heels of their decision to trade away their own rising star, Micah Parsons, to the Green Bay Packers before the season began. This move has left a noticeable void in Dallas’ defense. The team has faced difficulties in setting the edge and generating consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks, leading to a more urgent need for an elite talent like Crosby.

While trading for Crosby would not come without a significant cost, it may not be as steep as the price Dallas paid for Parsons, given Crosby’s age—two years older than Parsons. Nevertheless, acquiring him would still require a considerable investment, reflecting his status among the top players at his position.

Looking Ahead

If the Cowboys move forward with this trade, it would signal a bold attempt to enhance their roster and potentially reshape their defensive approach. A player like Crosby could provide the Cowboys with the edge they require to elevate their performance and make a deeper playoff push. As the trade deadline looms, all eyes will be on Dallas to see if they can secure this high-profile acquisition.
