Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer slams play-calling after crushing loss to Vikings

Date:

Schottenheimer Takes Responsibility After Cowboys’ Disappointing Loss

The Dallas Cowboys faced a crushing defeat against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, effectively putting their playoff aspirations on life support. With only a slim one percent chance of making the postseason, the team finds itself in a dire situation that demands a miraculous turnaround.

Third-Down Struggles Haunt the Cowboys

A glaring issue that contributed to Dallas’ downfall was its abysmal performance on third downs. The Cowboys converted a mere two of 12 attempts, a statistic that highlights their inability to sustain drives. After the game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed these shortcomings, acknowledging the need for improvement.

Play-Calling Under Scrutiny

Schottenheimer’s play-calling also faced criticism for its conservative approach, particularly in key moments when the team opted for field goals. Star kicker Brandon Aubrey, typically reliable, had an off night, missing two crucial attempts. The head coach took full responsibility for the loss, admitting it was tough to swallow.

“I’m frustrated that we didn’t find a way to get this game done,” Schottenheimer expressed. “We’re better than that. I’m better than that. It always starts with me, and I need to own the things I messed up.”

He further acknowledged the superior performance of the Vikings’ coaching staff, stating, “Brian Flores was better than me today. I won’t sleep very well tonight, but I promise you I’ll wake up tomorrow, work my ass off, and figure it out.”

Playoff Hopes Dwindling

To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Cowboys face an uphill battle. They must win their remaining games while relying on the Philadelphia Eagles to drop all three of their contests. The immediate focus will be on the upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium. Scheduled for kickoff at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX, this game could determine if the Cowboys can prolong their season or if it’s time to shift gears toward the NFL Draft.

As the team prepares for this pivotal clash, the urgency is palpable. With their postseason fate hanging by a thread, the pressure is on Schottenheimer and his squad to deliver a performance that reignites the spark of hope among fans and players alike.
