Dallas Cowboys eye bold move for Titans’ cornerback Roger McCreary at NFL trade deadline

Dallas Cowboys Target Titans’ Cornerback Roger McCreary Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

The Dallas Cowboys are poised to be active as the NFL trade deadline approaches, eyeing potential upgrades to enhance their roster. One intriguing candidate that has emerged is Tennessee Titans cornerback Roger McCreary, a former second-round draft pick known for his potential.

Recent Success Fuels Trade Speculation

Coming off their most comprehensive win of the season, the Cowboys are riding a wave of confidence as they prepare for a critical Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos. While the focus remains on the field, the front office must also consider opportunities to bolster the team through trades. As franchises look to offload players and accumulate draft capital, Dallas should be on the lookout for prospects that can address their defensive needs.

McCreary’s Situation in Tennessee

Roger McCreary, selected 35th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Auburn, has struggled to make a significant impact within the Titans’ defense. With his current contract set to expire after this season, speculation is mounting that the Titans may be open to trading him. Insider Kristopher Knox has noted, “McCreary hasn’t exactly thrived in Tennessee’s defense, but few players have. If the Titans are truly desperate for picks, cashing in McCreary would be logical, since he’s an impending 2026 free agent.”

Knox identifies the Cowboys as a fitting destination, highlighting McCreary’s youth at 25 and his potential for development. He estimates that acquiring McCreary could require a fourth-round pick—an investment that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has shown a willingness to make.

Assessing McCreary’s Fit in Dallas

In terms of performance, McCreary holds a Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 67.6, ranking him 42nd among cornerbacks, with a coverage grade of 68.6 placing him at 40th. For context, DaRon Bland, the top-rated cornerback on the Cowboys roster this season, ranks 44th overall with a grade of 64.2 but is 18th in coverage at 70.5. Aside from Bland, the remaining cornerbacks on the Dallas roster have even lower coverage grades, indicating room for improvement.

If the Cowboys are serious about their playoff aspirations, considering a move for McCreary could prove beneficial. The young cornerback’s ability to grow within a new system might provide the boost Dallas needs as they aim for postseason success.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Cowboys will weigh their options carefully, and the prospect of acquiring McCreary could represent a strategic step forward in fortifying their secondary.
