Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarvion Overshown sets sights on sacking Patrick Mahomes in Thanksgiving clash
The Dallas Cowboys are on the brink of a much-anticipated matchup, as they prepare to host the Kansas City Chiefs at AT&T Stadium for their annual Thanksgiving Day game. Just 24 hours away from kickoff, the Cowboys enter Week 13 riding a wave of momentum, having secured two consecutive victories bolstered by a resurgent defense.
A Team on the Rise
Following their bye week, the Cowboys welcomed back key players and made impactful additions, which have significantly enhanced their defensive unit. The arrivals of Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson, alongside the returns of DeMarvion Overshown and Shavon Revel, have injected fresh energy into the squad at a critical juncture in the season.
Overshown, in particular, is poised to play a pivotal role in Thursday’s contest against the Chiefs. He carries with him not only the weight of expectations but also a personal motivation that stems from his high school days.
A Personal Connection to Mahomes
The Dallas linebacker shared a unique insight into his history with Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Chiefs. Overshown revealed a connection that goes back to their childhood in East Texas.
“Crazy thing is, I went to Whitehouse in elementary [school], so the varsity football players would come to the elementary and see the kids,” Overshown recounted. “Pat was actually in high school. A couple of times he came to the elementary. His brother Jackson and his cousin Emma, we were all in the same class. I actually grew up with them. I know the Mahomes family real well.”
This personal history has only intensified his determination. Overshown stated, “I got to [record a sack], it’s mandatory. East Texas been talking about it since the schedule popped up. It’s 903. We going at it, somebody got to win it.” The fervor of the rivalry adds an extra layer of significance to his performance.
Looking Ahead to the Game
Having made his season debut just a fortnight ago, Overshown has had limited opportunities to showcase his skills, recording six tackles in his two appearances thus far. With the stakes raised in this crucial game, fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Overshown can elevate his game and fulfill his ambitious goal.
The Cowboys’ Thanksgiving showdown against the Chiefs is set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS, with veteran broadcasters Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call. This matchup not only holds playoff implications but also features a compelling narrative as two teams vie for supremacy on one of football’s most cherished days.
