Dallas Cowboys cornerback Josh Butler declares comeback with bold message: “Been ready since Week 6!”

Josh Butler’s Bold Comeback Statement

The Dallas Cowboys are experiencing a wave of optimism in their secondary as they gear up for the final stretch of the season. With All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs expected to make his return in Week 14 and fellow standout DaRon Bland recovering well from a Thanksgiving Day scare, the team’s defensive backfield is beginning to regain its strength. Adding to this positive momentum is the anticipated return of Josh Butler, a third-year cornerback eager to contribute.

Butler’s Journey Back to the Field

Butler, who started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, took to social media to announce his readiness to return. “Been a year. Been ready since Week 6 and healthy,” he expressed on X. “I just want to ball with the gang. This team so fun. Trusting in God but I’m ready. Let’s go Cowboys.” His message reflects not just his personal journey but also his desire to integrate back into a team that has shown promise this season.

Originally beginning the 2024 campaign on the practice squad, Butler was promoted to the active roster on November 18. He made an immediate impact, participating in five games and starting three before his season was cut short by a torn ACL suffered in Week 13 against the New York Giants. If Butler is activated, the Cowboys could boast one of the healthiest and deepest secondaries in recent memory.

Impact on the Cowboys’ Secondary

Butler’s return could be pivotal for the Cowboys. As he currently resides on the PUP list, he wouldn’t count against the team’s limited IR-return spots. This means his activation could be a straightforward process, allowing him to bolster the Cowboys’ defensive ranks.

In his brief time on the field this season, Butler showcased significant potential under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, recording five pass deflections, one sack, and 21 total tackles. His performance has not gone unnoticed, especially as the Cowboys’ defense has surged with the addition of Quinnen Williams. However, cornerback remains a position of concern for the team, and Butler’s presence could provide much-needed depth.

A Critical Time for the Cowboys

As the Cowboys prepare for their playoff push, they find themselves in a competitive NFC East landscape. The depth chart at defensive tackle and end has been fortified, and linebacker Logan Wilson’s addition has also strengthened the unit. With Butler looking to return to form, he represents an intriguing option for a position that has seen ups and downs throughout the season.

With playoff aspirations on the line, the Cowboys will need to consider all available options in their secondary. If Butler is ready to take the field, he could prove to be a valuable asset as they look to solidify their chances in the postseason. The excitement around his potential return reflects the team’s determination to make a deep run, underscoring the significance of each player’s contribution in these critical weeks ahead.
