Dak Prescott on the Brink of Rewriting Cowboys History

Dak Prescott is on the verge of making history within the Dallas Cowboys franchise. This Sunday, he has the opportunity to surpass Tony Romo in career passing completions, with Troy Aikman soon to follow. The Cowboys have seen numerous talented quarterbacks over the years, but Prescott is poised to ascend to the top of one significant statistic: passing completions.

Climbing the Ranks

As it stands, Aikman leads the all-time completions list for the Cowboys with 2,898 completions. Romo is right behind him in second place with 2,829 completions, while Prescott currently holds third with 2,801 completions. Notably, Danny White and Roger Staubach round out the top five, with 1,761 and 1,685 completions, respectively.

For Prescott to leapfrog Romo, he needs just 29 additional completions. To surpass Aikman, he would require 98 more. With a healthy slate of games ahead, both milestones appear achievable for the seasoned quarterback.

Setting New Standards

Beyond just completions, Prescott has already established himself as a leader among Cowboys quarterbacks. He boasts a remarkable completion percentage of 66.6%, the highest among Cowboys QBs who have started at least ten games. In addition, he ranks second in touchdown passes for the franchise, having thrown 213 touchdowns, trailing only Romo, who had 248. Aikman, a key figure during the franchise’s early successes, finished his career with 165 touchdown passes, many of which were facilitated by Emmitt Smith’s prowess on the ground.

Efficiency and Effectiveness

Another noteworthy aspect of Prescott’s game is his interception percentage, which is lower than both Romo’s and Aikman’s. This efficiency adds to the argument for Prescott’s place among the franchise’s all-time greats. Interestingly, his win-loss record closely mirrors that of Romo’s; Prescott currently holds a record of 76-47, while Romo finished his Cowboys career at 78-49. Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl champion, boasted a 94-71 record.

Legacy in the Making

As Prescott continues to build on his impressive career, the statistics paint a compelling picture of his impact on the franchise. His imminent ascension to the top of the completions list not only solidifies his place in Cowboys lore but also underscores his role as one of the franchise’s most accomplished quarterbacks. With each game, Prescott inches closer to rewriting the history books, further entrenching himself in Cowboys history.
