Dak Prescott’s Struggles: Broncos Deal a Blow to MVP Aspirations

Dak Prescott faced a significant setback in his MVP-caliber campaign during the Dallas Cowboys’ disappointing Week 8 performance. The Cowboys fell decisively to the Denver Broncos with a score of 44-24, and Prescott’s struggles under pressure became glaringly apparent.

Defensive Woes for the Cowboys

The Dallas defense was once again a liability, failing to provide the support needed against a potent Broncos offense. While the Cowboys managed to force a couple of mistakes from Denver, including an errant pass from quarterback Bo Nix that resulted in an interception and a dropped touchdown catch by Courtland Sutton, these were rare moments of success. For the most part, the Broncos dominated the game, exposing the vulnerabilities in the Cowboys’ defensive lineup.

Offensive Struggles Compound the Issues

On the offensive side, Dallas did not fare much better. Although running back Javonte Williams found the end zone twice, he struggled to make a significant impact against his former team. Prescott, meanwhile, faced relentless pressure from the Broncos’ pass rush, leading to critical mistakes, including two interceptions. His performance was widely viewed as one of his worst of the season, severely impacting his MVP candidacy, as noted by analysts.

“Dak Prescott has been a dark-horse MVP candidate for most of the season. Considering how well he had been playing—and how bad Dallas’ defense is—getting into the postseason might have been enough to earn him serious award consideration,” analysts observed. “However, Prescott had his worst game of the season on Sunday. He threw two picks, misfired on several other throws, and failed to score a touchdown for only the second time this season.”

The Burden on Prescott’s Shoulders

Despite the setback, a single poor performance should not overshadow Prescott’s overall achievements this season. However, it is evident that the Cowboys are placing an overwhelming burden on their star quarterback. The offensive line, composed of young players, has struggled with injuries throughout the year, limiting Prescott’s ability to operate effectively.

With insufficient support from the running game—especially behind Williams—Prescott often finds himself in a precarious position, needing to produce under duress. Furthermore, the defensive unit’s inability to contain opposing receivers means he is consistently asked to perform at an extraordinary level.

This Week 8 outing serves as a stark reminder of the challenges Prescott faces when the odds are stacked against him. The Cowboys’ reliance on their quarterback raises concerns about their overall strategy moving forward and highlights the need for a more balanced team approach to achieve success in the upcoming weeks. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen how Prescott and the Cowboys will respond to this adversity.
