Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones addresses glare concerns at AT&T Stadium

As the Dallas Cowboys gear up to host the Washington Commanders this Sunday, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones has taken the opportunity to address the often-discussed issue of sun glare at AT&T Stadium. This game, pivotal for positioning in the NFC East, will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET, a time that increases the likelihood of glare affecting play.

A unique challenge at AT&T Stadium

AT&T Stadium is notorious for its distinctive architectural features, including the massive glass panels that can create a challenging glare for players. Last season, this glare led to several players losing sight of the ball during key moments, making it a focal point of discussion among fans and analysts alike. However, Jones is unfazed by the situation.

In a recent interview on 105.3 The Fan, he was asked how the team plans to manage the sunlight streaming through the stadium’s large windows. With a sense of humor, Jones remarked, “You know it takes a scientist to figure that out.” He then shifted to a more serious tone, assuring fans that the Cowboys have a “good system in place” to combat the glare.

Preparation and strategy

Jones emphasized the importance of preparation, noting that the team’s football operations staff has a solid understanding of how to navigate the glare. “We actually talked about it. It can be a homefield advantage if we stay on top of it,” he stated, adding that Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is already prepared for the situation.

While many might think a straightforward solution, such as closing the curtains, would suffice, the Cowboys seem committed to a more involved approach. Jones’ comments suggest that the team is not only aware of the challenge but is actively seeking ways to turn it into an advantage.

Looking ahead to the match-up

As the Cowboys prepare for this crucial division rivalry, all eyes will be on how they manage the conditions at AT&T Stadium. With their playoff hopes potentially hanging in the balance, the effectiveness of their strategies against the glare could play a significant role in the outcome.

Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Coach Schottenheimer’s plans are executed effectively and whether the Cowboys can harness homefield conditions to their benefit as they take on the Commanders.
