Commanders Add Robbie Chosen to Practice Squad Amid Injury Concerns

The Washington Commanders are taking proactive steps to bolster their receiving corps, signing wide receiver Robbie Chosen to their practice squad. This move comes in response to the ongoing injury issues faced by star receiver Terry McLaurin.

Chosen’s Recent Struggles

Chosen, previously known as Robby Anderson, has yet to see the field this season. He participated in two games with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, managing to record just one catch for five yards. His last stint was with the San Francisco 49ers, where he was released in early September.

Once a promising talent, Chosen enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2020, amassing over 1,000 receiving yards with the Carolina Panthers. However, his production has sharply declined in the subsequent seasons, with yardage totals plummeting from 519 yards in 2021 to 282 yards in 2022, and a mere 126 yards in 2023.

Addressing the Injury Crisis

The Commanders’ decision to sign Chosen is primarily fueled by the uncertainty surrounding their top receivers. Both McLaurin and fellow veteran Noah Brown have been sidelined with injuries and missed practice last week. As they inch closer to Week 5, their availability remains uncertain, leaving the Commanders in a precarious position.

In their absence, Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane stepped up, but the duo combined for only four catches totaling 39 yards, highlighting the need for more depth at the position.

The addition of Chosen, while primarily a depth move, might provide the Commanders with a much-needed boost as they navigate through these injury challenges. With key players on the mend, every bit of depth can make a significant difference in the weeks ahead.
