Colts Strengthen Defense with Darrick Forrest Joining Practice Squad
The Indianapolis Colts made a significant move to bolster their defensive lineup by signing former Washington Commanders safety Darrick Forrest to their practice squad on Tuesday. Alongside Forrest, cornerback Keydrain Calligan also joined the Colts’ practice squad, marking a strategic shift for the team as they look to enhance their defensive capabilities.
Roster Adjustments
In order to accommodate the new additions, the Colts released center Mose Vavao and safety Trey Washington. These changes reflect a proactive approach by the Colts’ management, aiming to refine their roster as they navigate the challenges of the season.
Keydrain Calligan’s Background
Keydrain Calligan is a promising talent who showcased his skills during his final collegiate season at Southeastern Louisiana. Following his college career, he had a brief stint with the Houston Texans during the offseason before participating in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks. During his time with Seattle, Calligan made an impact in two preseason games, tallying three tackles, and now looks to make his mark with the Colts.
Darrick Forrest’s Impressive Track Record
Darrick Forrest, a fifth-round draft pick in 2021, brings a wealth of experience to the Colts. During his tenure with the Commanders, he appeared in 40 games and made 17 starts. His standout year came in 2022 when he recorded four interceptions, forced two fumbles, and accumulated 88 total tackles, demonstrating his capability as a formidable presence in the secondary.
In his last season with Washington, Forrest played a key role in helping the team reach the NFC Championship game, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable player under pressure.
The Colts are hopeful that Forrest’s experience and skill set will translate into improved defensive performance as they strive for success in the competitive landscape of the NFL.
