Cleveland Browns’ roster shuffle returns Gage Larvadain as promising rookie secures practice squad spot after brief waiver scare

Cleveland Browns make roster adjustments as Gage Larvadain reclaims practice squad position following waiver concerns

The Cleveland Browns stirred some surprise within the NFL community last week when they made the decision to waive rookie wide receiver Gage Larvadain. This move was necessary to create space for Quinshon Judkins’ promotion to the 53-man roster. However, it also meant that the promising Larvadain was exposed to the possibility of being claimed by another team. In a fortunate turn of events, he went unclaimed and has now returned to the Browns.

On Tuesday, the franchise announced the addition of four players to their practice squad, with Larvadain being a notable inclusion.

Larvadain’s Journey to the NFL

Larvadain’s path to the NFL has been anything but conventional. After finishing high school in Louisiana, he enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he not only played football but also made a mark as a walk-on for the basketball team. His talent was undeniable, as he earned the title of Southland Conference Freshman of the Year during his time there, appearing in 11 games for the basketball squad.

After two productive seasons at SELA, Larvadain transferred to Miami (Ohio), where he shone on the gridiron. He recorded 42 receptions for 679 yards and found the end zone six times, showcasing his ability to make significant contributions on the field. Following that successful season, he made another move, this time to South Carolina, where he added 19 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown to his collegiate resume.

His impressive performances during rookie minicamp and the preseason helped him secure a spot on the Browns’ summer roster, illustrating his potential to make an impact in the NFL.

Roster Moves and Practice Squad Additions

As part of the roster adjustments, the Browns signed Larvadain along with cornerback Trey Avery and offensive tackles Joshua Miles and Tyre Phillips to their practice squad. To accommodate these new signings, Cleveland had to release three players from their practice squad: cornerback LaMareon James, defensive tackle Ralph Holley, and offensive tackle Logan Brown.

While these moves are significant, Larvadain stands out as a player who could provide valuable depth and skill to the Browns’ receiving corps in the future. His journey reflects resilience and determination, and if given the opportunity, he could become an essential asset for the team moving forward.

As the Browns continue to refine their roster, the spotlight will remain on Larvadain and his development within the organization. With a mix of experience and youthful exuberance, he has the potential to make a notable impact, provided he seizes his chances on the practice squad.
