Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins’ season abruptly ends with severe leg injury
Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins will not return this season after suffering a broken leg during the team’s Week 16 loss to the Buffalo Bills. In what has been a promising rookie campaign, Judkins rushed for 827 yards and seven touchdowns on 230 attempts, establishing himself as the leading rusher for the Browns as the season neared its conclusion.
Injury Details and Coach’s Remarks
Following the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski addressed the severity of Judkins’ injury.
“Quinshon had an ankle dislocation and fractured his fibula,” Stefanski reported. “I’m obviously very disappointed for the young man. He will bounce back. I have zero doubt about that with him. But, you know, you never want to see that with any of your guys. He’ll get surgery, and he’ll be back in no time, I know that.”
Stefanski praised Judkins’ character and work ethic, stating, “Q’s been incredible. Great teammate, runs hard, cares about this game, cares about the right things. So I’m disappointed for him. He’s disappointed, but he’s not somebody that I worry about. He’ll bounce back.”
Tough Loss and Team Resilience
Judkins’ injury compounded the disappointment of a narrow 23-20 defeat against the Bills. His absence in the second half was felt, as his explosive running style could have shifted the momentum in Cleveland’s favor. Nevertheless, the Browns’ depth at running back was on display, with backups Trayveon Williams and Raheim Sanders stepping up to fill the void.
“Yeah. Guys that we trust,” Stefanski emphasized regarding his running back corps. “I think I’ve told you guys many times, whoever is in there, we trust them. And I say that because they’re with us in every meeting and at practice. Sometimes you don’t get those opportunities, but you’re on the team because we trust you. So I’m not surprised to see those guys come through.”
In relief of Judkins, Sanders emerged as the primary ball carrier, tallying 11 carries for 42 yards. Williams, while contributing three carries for 17 yards, also led the team in receptions, catching four passes for 38 yards. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders showcased his agility as well, adding four carries for 49 yards, while Malachi Corley contributed with three carries for 30 yards.
Looking Ahead
With Judkins sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Browns face a challenging road in the final two weeks. However, the team’s resilience and depth will be tested as they adapt to the loss of their rookie standout. The coaching staff remains confident in their ability to navigate these challenges as they prepare for the upcoming games.
