Cleveland Browns clear path for Quinshon Judkins’ debut, releasing Trayveon Williams to make roster space

Browns Open Roster Spot for Quinshon Judkins with Trayveon Williams Release

The Cleveland Browns have taken a significant step towards integrating second-round rookie running back Quinshon Judkins into their lineup. To make room for Judkins, the team has released Trayveon Williams, a move that underscores their commitment to giving the young player an opportunity to contribute.

Trayveon Williams’ Short Tenure

Williams, a 27-year-old running back, was signed by the Browns in August after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams has been a steady presence in the league, appearing in all 17 games for Cincinnati over the past two seasons. However, his contributions were primarily on special teams, where he played a significant role—55 percent of the Bengals’ special teams snaps in 2022, increasing to 64 percent in 2023.

On the offensive side, Williams saw limited action, with only 10 snaps last season and a career total of 62 carries for 307 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. His proven ability on special teams may allow him to find a new opportunity elsewhere, as he looks to continue his professional career.

Judkins Ready for Practice Amid Investigation

Quinshon Judkins signed his rookie contract on Saturday, paving the way for his return to practice this week. Despite being under investigation by the NFL for potential violations of the league’s personal conduct policy, his availability for practice signals that he could be poised for his NFL debut this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Browns’ backfield now includes fourth-round rookie Dylan Sampson and veteran Jerome Ford, creating an intriguing dynamic as Judkins integrates into the mix. Sampson showcased his potential in last week’s loss to the Bengals, handling 20 touches, and the distribution of carries among the backs remains to be seen as Judkins ramps up.

Looking Ahead

As the Browns clear space for Judkins, the anticipation builds around his potential impact on the team. With a return to the practice field on Wednesday, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this young talent will influence the Browns’ offense, particularly in their upcoming matchup against the Ravens. The adjustments within the roster could provide a fresh perspective as Cleveland seeks to bolster their performance on the field.
