Chicago Bears eye Alvin Kamara trade as D’Andre Swift struggles continue

Bears Consider Kamara Trade Amid Swift’s Inconsistent Performance

As the Chicago Bears continue to assess their running back options, the impending matchup against the New Orleans Saints offers a unique opportunity to evaluate a potential trade target. With the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 4, the Bears find themselves at a crossroads, particularly in light of D’Andre Swift’s erratic performances.

Swift’s Unpredictable Production

D’Andre Swift showcased a remarkable performance in Week 6, averaging an impressive 7.7 yards per carry during Chicago’s nail-biting 25-24 triumph over the Commanders. His contributions were pivotal, and he garnered significant praise for his explosive play. However, such standout performances have been the exception rather than the rule. In the two games prior, Swift’s struggles were evident, as he managed a dismal average of just 2.6 yards per carry, contributing to the offense’s overall difficulties.

While fans and analysts alike hold out hope for a sustained improvement, the reality remains that Swift’s inconsistency could jeopardize the Bears’ offensive strategy moving forward. If his production levels revert to the lackluster form seen previously, it may prompt the Bears to explore alternatives in the running back market.

Alvin Kamara’s Availability

Coincidentally, one of the league’s prominent running backs, Alvin Kamara, will be in town this Sunday. At 30 years old, he may not represent a long-term solution for the Bears, but his capabilities as both a runner and pass catcher remain intact. This season, Kamara’s numbers have dipped, largely due to the New Orleans Saints’ struggling offensive line, which ranks last in ESPN’s run block win rate. This is in stark contrast to Chicago, which currently boasts the third-best run blocking performance in the league.

Should the Bears decide to pursue a trade for Kamara, his statistics could rebound significantly in a more favorable system. The potential cost of acquiring him appears manageable. A straightforward exchange of Swift for Kamara could suffice, possibly requiring only a late-round draft pick to complete the deal. Such a transaction could be a strategic move, enabling the Bears to gain a player capable of making impactful plays while alleviating concerns about Swift’s consistency.

Looking Ahead

As the Bears gear up for their clash with the Saints, the performance of both Swift and Kamara will undoubtedly be scrutinized. With Chicago in pursuit of a more reliable ground game, the next few weeks could dictate whether they solidify their roster with an experienced veteran or continue to develop their current talent. The clock is ticking, and the trade deadline looms large, leaving the Bears with critical decisions to make in the pursuit of success this season.
