Buffalo Bills’ Brandin Cooks takes responsibility for missed opportunities
In a bid to bolster their wide receiver corps, the Buffalo Bills acquired veteran Brandin Cooks after his release from the New Orleans Saints. With over a decade of experience in the NFL, Cooks was expected to be a significant asset to the team. Throughout his career, he has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark six times, showcasing his ability to make impactful plays. However, since joining the Bills, Cooks has struggled to leave his mark on the field.
His debut performance included a modest 13-yard reception, but he has not registered any significant contributions since. Compounding matters, Cooks has missed two critical deep passes that had the potential to alter the course of games.
Cooks acknowledges his missteps
Taking accountability for his performance, Cooks has openly discussed his shortcomings. “For me, the player I am and I know to be, I expect to make those plays,” he stated. “It’s definitely not a lack of working hard or not working. Things happen. I flush them, but at the same time, in my mind, it’s like, ‘I’ve gotta make that play.’ That’s my mindset. It will always be my mindset. Nobody will be harder on me than myself.”
Cooks has only seen limited action recently, with just 12 snaps in the Bills’ latest game. However, he is optimistic about increasing his involvement in the offense and making the crucial plays the team needs from him.
Winning is the ultimate goal
Despite the personal setbacks, Cooks remains focused on the bigger picture. “At the end of the day, we’ve got an unselfish group in our receiver room and we’re all kind of rotating,” he noted. “Our run game is so amazing, and we all can make plays. My number one goal is I just want to win. I truly mean that. When I’m in, I’m in. It doesn’t matter how much. That’s just my mindset.”
Having played in two Super Bowls, Cooks is driven by the desire to secure his first championship ring. He recognizes that this season could provide his best opportunity yet to achieve that elusive title. As he continues to adapt to his role with the Bills, Cooks is determined to make the plays that will contribute to the team’s success.
