Bryce Young slammed by analyst: “Not the franchise QB Panthers need”

Bryce Young under scrutiny as doubts arise about his future with the Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are grappling with the reality of their quarterback situation following a disheartening 17-7 defeat at home to the New Orleans Saints in Week 10. The performance of Bryce Young, the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has become a focal point of criticism as the team struggles to find its footing this season.

Analyst’s stark assessment of Young’s capabilities

NFL analyst Brent Sobleski has raised concerns about Young’s viability as the franchise quarterback for the Panthers. Despite entering the week with a surprising 5-4 record, Sobleski noted that the Panthers’ victories have come despite Young’s performances rather than because of them. He stated, “After watching their offense sputter most of the afternoon in a loss to the hapless Saints, something has become evident: The Panthers were winning in spite of Bryce Young, not because of him. He isn’t the long-term answer under center in Carolina.”

In the recent game, Young completed 68 percent of his passes, but managed only 125 yards and threw an interception. This marked the fifth time in ten games that he failed to surpass 150 passing yards, raising further questions about his ability to lead the team effectively.

Struggles amid coaching changes

Young’s tumultuous start to his career has not been without challenges. Over his first three years, he has navigated the instability of three different head coaches, and the offensive line has consistently struggled with pass protection. However, under the guidance of head coach Dave Canales, a quarterback specialist, Young has now had two seasons to prove himself. The time for excuses seems to be running out.

With a growing sample size of games, it is becoming increasingly clear that Young has yet to demonstrate the playmaking ability required to thrive in the NFL. Currently viewed as a game manager at best, his inconsistency raises concerns about his future with the Panthers. The franchise’s expectations are elevating, and if Young cannot adapt quickly, the organization may be compelled to consider alternatives sooner than anticipated.

Looking ahead to the next challenge

As the Panthers prepare for their Week 12 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, the stakes will be high for Young. Scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, this game will be critical for both his development and the team’s aspirations. The Panthers are at a crossroads, and how Young performs in the coming weeks could determine his standing within the organization going forward.
